Sherbourne Fields' School Library Cabin

Sherbourne Fields School in Coventry is an all age specialist school that provides an exciting, ambitious and creative education for pupils with a broad spectrum of need; including a wide range of physical, medical and learning needs. They wanted to add an exciting element of learning for their pupils and so chose our 14m² connected cabins with solar domes and a covered porch to create a brand new, magical school library space!

We revisited the school to see how they were getting on since having their connected library cabins installed and spoke to Headteacher, Shivaun Duffy...

How is the cabin used?

"The log cabin at Sherbourne Fields has been installed to create a wonderful new library for our pupils.

We have situated the library on the grounds of our school amongst trees, which is in keeping with the style of the cabin and lends itself to the creation of a magical space.  When our children and young people visit the cabin library they enter into a completely new type of space. This allows them to escape into new worlds through stories of past and present and have their imaginations ignited though storytelling."

How has the library cabin impacted the students?

"Since we have had this wonderful new space in our school our teachers have witnessed our pupils' excitement about their lessons in their new library. From delving into texts for English, researching topics for Science or attending the now very popular library and reading club, our log cabin library is a place of delight for all.

Our pupils have commented 'I love our new library', 'Our library is like going into a film', 'It's magical in our library'. Visitors to our school, including local authors who came to officially open the space have been taken by the charm and uniqueness of this space."

What inspired you to choose our connected cabins?

"Your log cabins first caught my eye when visiting an exhibition at the Birmingham NEC. I was immediately taken by the unique space they could offer and the appeal it would have to children. It reminded me of a library that I visited as a child which looked like no other building I had seen, and it had always seemed magical to me, because of just that.

The log cabin in the exhibition made me curious, and when entering it I was able to appreciate the high quality of the materials and the finish. It was then I first considered that it may be able to withstand the demands of a school. The following term I shared the information about the log cabins with my business manager and Bret, our SSO, and we set about making the project happen!"
